Lahore: The Punjab Healthcare Commission has imposed a flood emergency in private hospitals across the province and directed that flood victims be provided treatment on a priority basis.
According to the instructions, free treatment and medicines will be provided to flood-affected patients, and strict monitoring of waterborne diseases has also been ordered.
The commission’s letter states that all private hospitals should allocate 35 percent of their beds for flood victims, while the emergency and intensive care units (ICUs) of the hospitals should be kept functional around the clock.
Meanwhile, the commission has ordered all hospitals to install sandbags and water pumps at the entrances to avoid possible hazards. Instructions have also been issued to seek cooperation from local NGOs and ambulance services for the timely transfer of patients.
Furthermore, the hospitals have been asked to keep all biomedical machinery, ventilators, and X-ray and CT scan machines fully functional. The commission has emphasized that an evacuation plan should be prepared for the safe evacuation of patients in any emergency.
