Karachi – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has urged the federal interior minister, Mohsin Naqvi, to resign at the earliest. While addressing a press conference in Karachi with party leaders Waqar Mehdi and Saeed Ghani, Khuhro accused Naqvi of threatening the country’s constitutional system of governance after the minister had earlier made public this allegations of breakdown of the democratic system in the country and called for the establishment of new provinces.

If the interior minister promotes openly a hybrid system and questions the democratic system, he has no moral and constitutional ground to stay in the federal cabinet,” the PPP leader said. Khuhro said the Constitution provides a clear process for boundary changes and that a two-third majority is needed in the provincial assembly of the province to change its borders. He had countered the demand of the separatists to create new provinces, telling them that those who wanted it should work on it in Punjab, as there was a previous assembly resolution in that province.

Moreover, Khuhro condemned Naqvi for taking the military into political discussions, pointing out that it does not serve the cause of democracy or the military’s reputation. He also said that if dozens of new administrative units are created, it would put an “unsustainable burden” on the national economy, saying that “the rule of the constitution and uninterrupted democracy” is the only way to “national stability”.
