Diplomacy in Action: PM Shehbaz Sharif Targets Economic and Regional Stability on Multi-Nation Tour

Islamabad – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has embarked on a pivotal diplomatic mission to Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Qatar, aimed at anchoring Pakistan’s economy and cooling regional tensions. Accompanied by a high-level cabinet delegation, the trip signals Islamabad’s intensified role as a mediator between the U.S. and Iran amidst escalating Middle East hostilities.

In Riyadh, the Prime Minister’s meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman follows a massive financial breakthrough: a new $3 billion pledge from the Kingdom and a long-term extension of existing $5 billion deposits. Beyond economics, the visit cements a “Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement” that treats an attack on one as an attack on both—a pact supported by the recent deployment of Pakistani fighter jets and troops to Saudi soil.

The tour continues to Turkiye, where the Premier will address the Antalya Diplomacy Forum to advocate for global cooperation, before concluding in Qatar on April 18. By balancing military solidarity with Saudi Arabia and constructive dialogue in Turkiye, Shehbaz Sharif is attempting to navigate Pakistan through a complex web of global crises while securing the vital foreign investment needed at home.
