Islamabad: The ceremony to confer the historic honor of “Baton of Field Marshal” on Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir was held at the Presidential Palace, in which the country’s highest political and military leadership participated in full force, demonstrating national unity and solidarity.
President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, former Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif, Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, all four chief ministers, governors, members of parliament, and other important government and military officials were present at the ceremony.
In his address, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that under the leadership of Field Marshal Asim Munir, a strong and effective response was given to the enemy, which forced him to kneel. He said that Pakistan’s forces have achieved unforgettable historical victories.
President Asif Ali Zardari also praised the military leadership and said that it is our duty to pay tribute to the brave sons, and today’s ceremony is a reflection of the same resolve that we are united on every front of national defense.
The presence of the leadership of various political parties at the ceremony reflected that there was complete consensus of the entire nation on Pakistan’s security and defense. The ceremony was not only a military ceremony. But it also became an expression of political harmony and national integration.
