Lahore: Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari has rejected the criticism of the Sindh government and said that Punjab has taken major steps for agricultural development and the welfare of farmers.
Uzma Bukhari said that the Punjab government provided relief of Rs 98 billion to farmers in the year 2025, while in 2024 this amount was Rs 55 billion. The agriculture budget this year has been set at Rs 129.8 billion and farmers have purchased more than Rs 60 billion through Kisan Card.
She said that Maryam Nawaz gave 9,500 tractors to farmers last year and the same number of tractors will be provided this year too. In addition, a special support program of Rs 14 billion has also been given to farmers.
Uzma Bukhari said that wheat production in Punjab is 22.05 million metric tons while Sindh’s production is only 3.54 million tons. According to her, Punjab has a surplus of 6.63 million tons of wheat while Sindh is facing a shortage of 3.19 million tons.
She said that “Punjab is playing a role in the country’s food security through its agricultural self-sufficiency, while Sindh should focus on meeting the needs of its flood victims and wheat.”
