Punjab government’s categorical stance: Winter holidays are not being extended

Lahore: The Punjab government has dismissed as baseless the news circulating on social media regarding the extension of winter vacations in educational institutions. Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat clarified that all government and private educational institutions in the province will open from January 12, 2026, as per the announced schedule, and no extension of the holidays is being made.

He said that the notification going viral regarding the extension of holidays is fake and no such announcement has been made by the education department. It may be recalled that the Punjab Education Department had already issued a notification according to which the winter vacations were from December 22, 2025, to January 10, 2026. However, some private educational institutions did not follow this notification and instructed students to start classes from January 6 through WhatsApp, which raised concerns among parents and educational circles.

Parents say that students are suffering from mental stress due to various announcements, so the government should make all private institutions adhere to the official schedule so that there is no confusion or disorder.
