Pakistan’s F-16 aircraft upgraded; technical support continues until 2036

Washington: The US Air Force has tried to maintain the air capabilities of several countries, including Pakistan, by signing a long-term contract for radar systems of F-16 fighter aircraft. Under this contract, Northrop Grumman has been provided with $488 million in funding to provide engineering and technical support.

The contract is related to the maintenance of APG-66 and APG-68 radar systems, which are an important part of the F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft. Work under the project will continue until 2036, which will provide continuous technical support to the air forces of the relevant countries.

This development has come under the United States Air Force’s Foreign Military Sales Program, which aims to keep the defence systems of allied countries in line with modern requirements.

In addition, the Defence Security Cooperation Agency last year proposed a $686 million package for the upgrade of Pakistan’s F-16 fleet, which includes Link-16 data systems, advanced communication equipment, navigation tools and training facilities.

According to officials, the main objective of this programme is to promote defence cooperation between Pakistan and allied countries and ensure better coordination during joint operations. At the same time, this project will help extend the service life of F-16 aircraft and improve their technical performance.

Defence analysts say that Pakistan’s air force has diversified its fleet in recent years, but F-16 aircraft are still an important part of its defence strategy, and their continuous upgrade is indispensable for national security.
