Islamabad: Pakistan has carried out what it described as “measured and effective defensive operations” against terrorist hideouts inside Afghanistan following what officials called unprovoked aggression.

In a statement, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan, confirmed that Pakistani security forces targeted selected locations used by militant groups operating from Afghan territory.

According to the statement, the strikes were conducted on the night of February 26 after what Pakistan termed “unprovoked actions” by the Afghan Taliban government. The Foreign Office said the operation was carried out under Pakistan’s right to self-defence and aimed at protecting its citizens.

Terror Infrastructure Targeted

Officials said terrorist hideouts and logistics centres were specifically targeted during the operation. The statement claimed that militant groups suffered heavy losses.

Pakistan warned that any future provocation would be met with a “measured, decisive and full response”.

Call for Regional Stability

Despite the escalation, Pakistan reiterated its desire for peace and stability in the region. The Foreign Office emphasised that diplomatic and political efforts would continue alongside security measures.

The statement further alleged that terrorist attacks from Afghan soil have increased with support from external elements and urged the Afghan Taliban to stop giving space to groups referred to as “Fitna al-Khawarij” and “Fitna al-Hindustan”.

Pakistan also called on the international community to pressure the Taliban authorities to take action against militant organisations operating within Afghanistan.

Officials reaffirmed that Pakistan reserves the right to defend itself under international law and the UN Charter.
