Monsoon disasters in Pakistan, 819 deaths and thousands of houses affected – WHO

Karachi: A report released by WHO has highlighted the horrific effects of monsoon rains and floods in Pakistan. According to the report, 819 people died as a result of the rains, while the number of injured is 1,111.

The dead include 493 men, 123 women and 203 children. The report further stated that 2,070 houses were completely destroyed, while 6,588 houses were partially damaged. A total of 8,658 houses were affected.

Furthermore, 104 health centers have also been affected due to the floods, which has increased the problems of medical treatment in rural and urban areas.

The rehabilitation of flood-affected families is a major test for the government and international organizations. Experts say that if sustainable planning is not done, monsoon rains will continue to cause major losses of life and property every year.
