Lahore air pollution reaches hazardous levels; hot and dry weather continues across the country

Lahore: Despite clear skies ahead, Lahore’s air quality has once again reached hazardous levels, according to the latest update from the Pakistan Meteorological Department. The weather in the city will remain dry for the next 24 hours, with temperatures fluctuating between 20°C and 32°C. Winds are expected to blow at a speed of 2 kmph, and humidity levels are expected to remain at 83%.

Environmental data shows Lahore’s Air Quality Index (AQI) at a hazardous 290, indicating serious health risks for residents. The Pakistan Engineering Council recorded the worst air quality at 762 AQI, followed by Syed Murat Ali Road (531), Shalimar Office (517), Gulberg III (485), and Shadman Market (459).

Meanwhile, Karachi will remain cool to hot and dry, with daytime temperatures expected to hover between 36°C and 38°C. Winds blowing from the east at a speed of 8 kmph and humidity at 80% will add to the discomfort. According to the global air quality rankings, Karachi currently stands as the 9th most polluted city in the world, with PM2.5 concentrations of 122 µg/m³.

Temperatures in Islamabad will remain dry with a high of 32 degrees Celsius, helped by light winds blowing at a speed of 9 kmph.

Health experts have urged citizens to stay indoors whenever possible, wear anti-pollution masks, and stay hydrated to combat both the heat and smog. The public is also advised to avoid outdoor exercise in high-pollution areas during the morning and evening hours.
