Tehran: Iran has announced the introduction of a new procedure for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, under which all commercial and transit ships will be allowed to pass after submitting a prior application.

According to Iran’s Persian Gulf Strait Authority, the new rules and regulations aim to streamline maritime transport in the region and provide a clear framework for international trade activities. The authority says that ships wishing to pass through the Strait of Hormuz will have to submit a formal application, after which they will be allowed to pass according to the prescribed procedures.

The announcement said that this facility is being provided in the context of a recent memorandum of understanding, which aims to further facilitate maritime trade and transportation in the region. The authorities clarified that only applications received through authorized sources will be considered, while applications received through unofficial or unauthorized channels will be rejected.

According to the Persian Gulf Strait Authority, all ships will have to submit their transit requests at least 48 hours in advance so that relevant agencies can review safety and management issues. Officials say that the advance notification system will improve transparency and efficiency in the shipping process.

In a major move, Iran has announced that it will not collect any transit fees from ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz for the next 60 days. According to experts, the decision could provide temporary financial relief to global shipping companies and is likely to improve trade activities in the region.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important shipping lanes, through which a large amount of global energy and commercial goods pass. For this reason, any policy change related to this route is given special importance in global trade markets.
