According to scientific calculations, Ramadan is likely to start on February 19, Eid-ul-Adha is expected on May 27

Islamabad: Astronomical expert Dr Faheem Hashmi has said that in the light of scientific observations and modern astronomical data, Ramadan is expected to start in Pakistan on February 19.

According to him, there is a possibility of seeing the moon on February 18, on the basis of which the first Ramadan is being determined. Dr Faheem Hashmi said that in the same sequence, the Shawwal moon is expected to be seen on March 20, after which Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to be celebrated on March 21.

He further said that astronomical calculations regarding the start of Dhul-Hijjah are indicating that the month could begin on May 17, while Eid-ul-Adha is expected on May 27.

According to religious affairs experts, astronomical predictions allow the public and institutions to prepare in advance; however, according to Islamic teachings, only the actual sighting of the moon has the final status.

Dr Faheem Hashmi also supported this position, saying that scientific predictions provide guidance, but the final announcement will always be made by the Sharia institutions.
