Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has informed the Public Accounts Committee that the eighth spell of monsoon in Pakistan will continue from September 2 to 11, before which seven spells have affected different parts of the country.

According to the NDMA Chairman, this year’s monsoon has come with 22 percent more intensity than usual, as a result of which 800 people have died and more than 1100 have been injured so far. He said that the NDMA has distributed 2100 tons of relief goods in the affected areas and efforts are underway to ensure timely assistance to every affected person.

He said on this occasion that the water flow data provided by India has so far proven to be accurate, while the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has done an excellent job for relief and rescue during the recent rains.

Drawing attention to global environmental threats, the NDMA Chairman said that if the temperature increases by 2 degrees, 65% of Pakistan’s glaciers will melt in the next 52 years, which could become a major environmental crisis in the future.
