Dushanbe: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while participating in the international conference on the protection of glaciers held in Tajikistan, has warned the world that if urgent measures are not taken, climate change could prove disastrous for countries like Pakistan.

The Prime Minister said that there are 13,000 glaciers in Pakistan and a large part of the water in the rivers comes from them, but due to climate change, these glaciers are disappearing rapidly.

He strongly reacted to India’s violation of the Indus Waters Treaty and said that Pakistan will not compromise on its share of water.

The Prime Minister appealed to the international community, especially developed countries, to fulfill their responsibilities to deal with environmental threats and provide financial and technical assistance to developing countries.

PM Shehbaz Sharif also congratulated the Tajik president on holding a global dialogue on glaciers.
