Islamabad: An important meeting was held between President Asif Ali Zardari and President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr. Masoud Peshkeshian at the Presidential Palace in Islamabad, in which both leaders called diplomatic efforts indispensable for establishing peace and ending conflicts in the region.
According to an official statement, President Zardari said that relations between Pakistan and Iran are based on common religion, culture and mutual respect, and the two countries can move together towards a peaceful and prosperous future in the region.
In the meeting, the Iranian President thanked the leadership and people of Pakistan for their unwavering support against Israeli aggression and said that Pakistan has always followed the path of peace and played a positive role in resolving conflicts.
President Zardari thanked Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei for his continued support on the issue of occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Both leaders reiterated their commitment to further expand bilateral relations and increase cooperation in various fields.
