Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the National Emergency Operations Center, where he was given a detailed briefing on the ongoing monsoon rains, cloudburst fears, and flood situation across the country. The Prime Minister, while describing the current situation as exceptional, said that we have to take preventive measures to deal with possible cloudbursts in the future.
He said that heavy rains have occurred in many areas, including Lahore, Chakwal, and Islamabad; however, due to appropriate measures, the losses were limited. He directed all the concerned agencies to be proactive to ensure the safety and facilities of the citizens.
The chairman of the PDMA informed the meeting that the amount of rain has been 30 to 40 percent more than normal, and there is a possibility of more rain in Azad Kashmir and Punjab during the next week.
Expressing regret over the loss of life and property due to the rains, the Prime Minister said that all the provinces are coping with the situation responsibly.
