Islamabad – According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), numerous persons involved in the May 9 attacks on military and public properties have been sentenced to harsh imprisonment. Those convicted for the attack on Jinnah House, including Jan Muhammad Khan and Muhammad Imran Mehboob, have been awarded 10 years of harsh jail. Similarly, Raja Muhammad Ehsan, participating in the GHQ attack, has also received a 10-year term. Adnan Ahmed and Rehmatullah, responsible for the Punjab Regimental Center attack in Mardan, and Anwar Khan, involved in the PAF Base Mianwali attack, were each convicted to 10 years in prison. Muhammad Afaq Khan, tied to the Bannu Cantonment attack, received 9 years, while Daud Khan, responsible for the Chakdara Fort attack, was sentenced to 7 years. Other penalties include Faheem Haider receiving 6 years for the Jinnah House attack, Zahid Khan obtaining 4 years for the Multan Cantonment checkpoint attack, and Yasir Nawaz being convicted to 2 years for his role in the Punjab Regimental Center attack in Mardan.
Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub Khan, denounced the sentences handed down by military courts. In a statement from Islamabad, he stated that the condemned persons are civilians and rejected their convictions in military courts, calling the punishments a violation of justice. He maintained that such military court proceedings against civilians are incompatible with democratic and legal norms.
