Islamabad: According to sources in the Ministry of Commerce, there has been a clear difference in the results of trade activities between Pakistan and Afghanistan in August 2025.

According to the data, the volume of imports from Afghanistan in August was $55 million, which is 50 percent more than $37 million in July 2025. This increase is not only significant on a monthly basis but also shows a 16 percent increase on an annual basis compared to $47 million in August 2024. During the first two months of the fiscal year (July to August 2025), Pakistan’s imports from Afghanistan totaled $91 million, which is 8 percent more than last year.

According to the Ministry of Commerce, this significant increase in imports has come at a time when the export of agricultural and basic commodities from Afghanistan is increasing. However, on the other hand, there has been a decline in exports. Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan in August 2025 stood at $88 million, a decline of 13 percent month-on-month and 1 percent year-on-year.

The data also shows that Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan in the first two months of the current fiscal year stood at $190 million. According to experts, this combination of increased imports and decreased exports could affect the trade balance, which will require further policy measures in the future.
