Islamabad: New data from the State Bank of Pakistan has shown that the country’s federal debt has decreased significantly by Rs 852 billion during September 2025, which is being described as a sign of improvement in the government’s fiscal strategy.

According to the report, the total federal debt was Rs 76,605 billion by the end of September, while a clear decrease was recorded in both the domestic and external sectors.

According to the State Bank’s report, domestic debt decreased by Rs 649 billion and external debt by Rs 203 billion. This improvement has come at a time when the government is focusing on fiscal discipline and better revenue policies.

The state bank further said that the total burden of federal debt decreased by Rs 1,283 billion in the first quarter of the current fiscal year, which economists are calling a positive sign for the future.
