Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert of heavy rains, flood conditions, and landslides across the country during the ongoing monsoon season till July 10. According to the spokesperson, water levels are likely to rise in various rivers, including the Kabul, Indus, Chenab, and Jhelum, while low-level flooding may occur in Tarbela, Chashma, Kalabagh, and Taunsa. The situation may be alarming at Marala and Khanki on the Chenab River, while at Mangla on the Jhelum River.

Similarly, the possibility of flooding has been expressed in the tributaries of the Swat River and Panjkora. The flow of local drains may increase in Balochistan’s Jhal Magsi, Sibi, Qila Saifullah, Zhob, and Musa Khel districts, while the risk of flooding and landslides has increased in the Hunza River, Khunjerab, Hoshe, Baraldo, Shamshal, and Shegar areas in Gilgit-Baltistan. Heavy rains can also cause landslides in Neelum Valley, Rawalakot, Bagh, and Muzaffarabad. The NDMA has warned citizens living in low-lying areas to move valuables to safe places, while citizens should avoid going near rivers, drains, and bridges.

According to the spokesperson, each family should keep a 3-5-day emergency kit containing food, water, and medicines ready. The agency has appealed to the public to pay attention to mobile and TV notifications for official alerts and keep getting the latest information through the “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert” app.
