Islamabad: In view of the shortage of sugar and increase in prices in the country, the federal government has decided to import sugar. The Sugar Advisory Board meeting, chaired by Minister for Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain, approved the immediate import of sugar to balance supply and demand.

The meeting also decided to strictly monitor the market supply and prices of sugar. The minister said that the supply of sugar across the country was being affected and steps were necessary to alleviate the hardships of the people. He clarified that the imported sugar would be delivered to the market as soon as possible, and a systematic system was also being established to monitor this process.
