Karachi: The trend of continuous increase in sugar prices across the country continues, and sugar is being sold for up to Rs 200 per kg in many cities, which has made the public very worried.

The price of sugar in the retail market of Peshawar has reached Rs 190 to 200 per kg, while two weeks ago the same sugar was available for Rs 180 per kg. According to sugar dealers, the price of sugar in the wholesale market of Peshawar has increased by one rupee to Rs 179 per kg.

On the other hand, the price of sugar in Quetta has increased to Rs 186 to 190 per kg at the retail level and Rs 183 per kg in the wholesale market. Shopkeepers say that due to reduced supply, the prices are increasing on a daily basis.

Sugar has also become expensive, increasing by Rs 2 per kg in the wholesale market of Karachi, where sugar is now being sold at Rs 180 per kg, while the prices at the retail level are between Rs 185 and 200 per kg.

On the other hand, the government has decided to import 500,000 tons of sugar to control prices, for which a regular tender has been issued. However, former caretaker minister Fawad Hassan Fawad has opposed this decision and demanded a review of it.

Public circles say that the continuous increase in the price of sugar is further affecting the lives of the common man, and immediate government intervention has become inevitable.
