Lahore becomes the most polluted city in the world, air quality index reaches 211

Lahore: Air pollution has gripped the provincial capital Lahore badly. According to the latest report released by the global environmental website, the city’s overall AQI has been recorded at 540, which is an alarming level for human health.

Areas like Sanda Road, Zahoor Elahi Road, GC University Road and Syed Murtabat Ali Road recorded the highest levels of pollution, where the AQI ranged from 752 to 890. Medical experts have urged citizens to take precautionary measures to avoid eye, throat and respiratory diseases.

Meanwhile, Karachi’s air has also been declared hazardous to health, with the AQI at 163, making the city the fifth most polluted city in the world.

According to the report:

  • 151–200 AQI is harmful to health
  • 201–300 is very harmful
  • A level above 301 is considered dangerous to human life

Environmental experts have called on the government to take immediate action, warning that the situation could worsen if pollution is not reduced.
