Lahore: In a landmark decision during the 23rd provincial cabinet meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the Punjab government approved the distribution of 1,000 free tractors to wheat farmers to boost agricultural productivity. The meeting also greenlit several key initiatives aimed at industrial growth, public welfare, and healthcare improvements. Among the major decisions was the approval of the Zero Time to Start Policy for Special Economic Zones and Small Industrial Estates, designed to streamline business operations and attract investment. CM Maryam Nawaz emphasized the government’s commitment to facilitating industrialists, stating, “Investors are welcome to set up industries and start operations immediately; necessary approvals will follow.” She further pledged to simplify bureaucratic processes to make Punjab a business-friendly hub.

In a significant move for public welfare, the cabinet approved free travel for special persons and senior citizens on the mass transit system and introduced a special travel card for students. Additionally, the Chief Minister directed officials to prepare a plan for launching a tram service in Lahore and approved the introduction of advanced cancer treatment, cryoablation, allocating PKR 580 million for the initiative. To enhance education, funds were approved to transform special education centers into Centers of Excellence, with a focus on improving facilities for special persons and introducing dedicated transport services for them.

The meeting also addressed employment opportunities, approving the recruitment of 5,960 constables, 87 positions in the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau, 127 roles in the Mass Transit Authority, 25 in specialized healthcare ICT, and 500 under the Murree Traffic Management Plan. In a major relief initiative, the cabinet approved a PKR 30 billion Nighaban Ramadan Package, benefiting 30 million citizens. This year, beneficiaries will receive PKR 10,000 directly at home, eliminating the need to wait in long queues. Starting next year, the package will be distributed through ATM cards for added convenience. These measures reflect the Punjab government’s commitment to agricultural development, industrial growth, and public welfare under CM Maryam Nawaz’s leadership.
