ISLAMABAD: In a major escalation of cross-border tensions, Pakistani security forces have initiated a comprehensive military response named Operation Ghazab-ul-Haq (Righteous Fury) following a series of unprovoked firing incidents initiated by the Afghan Taliban.

The operation, which spans multiple sectors in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has seen intensive ground and air engagements. According to security sources, the Pakistani response was “strong and effective”, successfully neutralising dozens of Afghan Taliban fighters and dismantling several strategic checkpoints across the Durand Line.

Key Highlights of the Operation:

  • Strategic Strikes: Precision operations targeted militant hideouts and military facilities in the Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Kurram, Chitral, and South Waziristan sectors.
  • Air Superiority: Pakistan Air Force (PAF) jets reportedly conducted targeted strikes on command centres and ammunition depots, including significant facilities in the Nangarhar province.
  • Territorial Control: Ground forces successfully took control of several border positions previously held by the Afghan Taliban, hoisting the national flag over cleared areas.
  • High-Tech Defences: A quadcopter drone deployed by Afghan forces to attack Pakistani checkpoints was shot down by military personnel before reaching its target.

Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar confirmed the martyrdom of two Pakistani soldiers, paying tribute to their ultimate sacrifice. He emphasised that while Pakistan seeks regional stability, it will not hesitate to deliver a “swift and merciless” response to any aggression against its territorial integrity.

“Our forces have the full capability to crush any aggressive ambitions. The entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with the Pakistani armed forces.” — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif

While Afghan sources have circulated counterclaims regarding Pakistani losses on social media, Islamabad has dismissed these as baseless misinformation intended to distract from their own significant tactical setbacks.

The current situation remains volatile as land border crossings, including Torkham, remain closed. International observers, including the UN, have urged both nations to exercise restraint and return to diplomatic channels to prevent the conflict from spiralling into a broader regional crisis.
