Lahore becomes the most polluted city in the world, air quality index reaches 211

Lahore: Most areas of Punjab have come under the grip of severe air pollution. According to environmental data, the highest pollution in the province was seen in Kasur, where 686 particulate matter was recorded.

Similarly, 601 particulate matter was recorded in Raiwind, 442 in Gujranwala, 337 in Faisalabad and 358 in Sheikhupura, which have been declared dangerous to health.

The Punjab Environment Department said that Lahore’s Air Quality Index (AQI) is 450, making the city the third most polluted city in Pakistan.

According to the agency, the AQI reached 500 in various areas of Lahore, such as Burki Road, Shahdara, Multan Road, GT Road and Egerton Road, which is a very dangerous level.

The department explained that the polluted easterly winds coming from India are affecting Lahore’s air quality. According to the report, the average AQI in the city is expected to be between 320 and 360, while a partial improvement is possible in the afternoon hours.

Medical experts have advised citizens to wear masks, keep windows closed and avoid leaving their homes unnecessarily.
