Lahore – The government of Pakistan has once again increased the prices of kerosene; an official notification has been issued. According to the official notification, the price of kerosene has been increased by Rs 4.66 per litre, after which its new price has been increased from Rs 428.74 to Rs 433.40 per litre.

This increase has been implemented immediately, which will further increase the financial burden on the people who are already suffering from inflation. Officials say the decision has been taken in view of the fluctuations in the prices of petroleum products in the global market and the increase in import costs to maintain fiscal balance.

Economists say the recent increase in the price of kerosene will cause severe hardship, especially for remote areas and low-income groups, as this fuel is used as a primary source of cooking and lighting. Although the government has called it a constraint of the global market, the move is likely to further worsen the lives of citizens living in rural areas.

It should be noted that the recent IMF talks also emphasised keeping energy prices in line with costs, which is now starting to have a direct impact on ordinary consumers.
