Lahore: The Punjab government has changed the schedule of Basant celebrations in Lahore and approved the celebrations to be held on March 12, 13 and 14, 2027. After this decision, the previous plan to celebrate Basant for ten days in January and February has changed.
The Punjab government had earlier announced celebrating Basant from January 29 to February 7, 2027. However, under the new decision, the celebration will now be limited to three days. With this change, both the duration and administrative schedule of Basant celebrations in Lahore have changed.
The proposal to change the dates was sent by the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore to the Punjab Home Department. The Home Department sent it to the provincial cabinet for summary approval, which approved the new schedule.
Basant is a festival linked to the cultural identity of Lahore; however, the safety of citizens is also an important issue in its organisation. The administration will have to ensure traffic flow, public safety and safety regulations regarding kite flying during the celebrations. Citizens should also follow the latest instructions issued by the government before participating in the celebration.
