Speaking to the media after the UN Security Council meeting, Iran’s permanent representative, Amir Saeed Eravani, accused the US of violating international law and said that the recent military actions contradict the basic principles of the UN Charter, and their issue will be raised at the global level.

According to Iravani, the actions targeting Iranian islands and southern regions on July 7 and 8 were against Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He said that Tehran views these incidents not only as a bilateral dispute but also in the context of international law, which is why this matter has also been brought before the Security Council.

The Iranian delegate also referred to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries on this occasion. He said that the success of any international agreement depends on its implementation, and if one party backs down from its obligations, then a review of the agreement may also be inevitable for the other party.

He said that Iran prefers diplomatic means, but in the event of a unilateral violation of agreements, Tehran reserves the right to consider available legal and political options to protect its national interests.

Amir Saeed Iravani called on the international community to impartially review such incidents and play an effective role in ensuring the uniform enforcement of international laws. According to him, it is the responsibility of international institutions to uphold the principle of sovereignty of states at all costs.

Analysts say that this statement by the Iranian representative outside the Security Council has come at a time when diplomatic efforts are underway to reduce tensions in the region. According to them, the statements and the nature of diplomatic contacts between the United States and Iran in the coming days could have a significant impact on the regional situation.
