Iranian President Masoud Pezeksiyan has said that Pakistan and Qatar are playing a role in diplomatic relations between Iran and the US. According to him, both countries are conveying Tehran’s messages to Washington. The Iranian President has called negotiations and regional cooperation essential to reduce tensions in the region.
In an interview with Arab TV, Pezeksiyan said that the exchange of messages between Iran and the US is taking place on the basis of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.Â
He urged Washington to clarify its position on the negotiations. He said that Tehran’s confidence has been affected by repeated attacks and sanctions by the United States.
The Iranian president also discussed the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, the United States is responsible for the closure of this important sea passage.
He said that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz would be a natural reaction if Iran’s routes were blocked. However, Pezeksiyan made it clear that a solution to this conflict should be sought through talks rather than force.
Pezeksiyan accused the United States and Israel of using the airspace of Muslim countries to attack Iran.
According to him, Iran targeted American military bases in the region because operations against Iran were carried out from these locations.
He also accused the United States of trying to pit the countries of the region against each other and gain control over resources.
The Iranian president urged Saudi Arabia and the Houthis in Yemen to resolve their differences through talks. He said that Iran can provide assistance for reconciliation in this regard.
Pezzekiyan also stressed the need for cooperation between Middle Eastern countries for regional security. He said that the region does not need any external power or guardian.
He also expressed Iran’s determination to stick to its position despite US sanctions and Israel’s stance.
This statement regarding Pakistan and Qatar’s mediation has come at a time when diplomatic relations between Iran and the US and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz are among the important issues in the region.
However, more details regarding the outcome of these relations and the future course of action of the negotiations are yet to be revealed.
