ISLAMABAD: Heavy rains continue to lash various parts of the country, causing urban flooding and raising fears of fresh disasters in flood-hit districts.

Heavy rains in Peshawar have inundated several areas including Saddar, GT Road, Gulbahar, Sher Shah Suri Road near the Governor House. Local residents faced difficulties as rainwater accumulated on major arteries, disrupting traffic and daily activities.

In Punjab, Chiniot received several hours of intermittent rain, further worsening the situation for communities affected by the recent floods. Waterlogging was reported in low-lying areas in nearby Sheikhupura and its adjoining areas, while in Jhelum, rivers and storm drains burst their banks due to waterlogging, inundating residential areas. Relief operations are facing difficulties due to incessant rains.

In southern Punjab, authorities have issued an emergency warning in villages near Talwar Post after the Sutlej River rose to an abnormally high level in Ganda Singh Wala. Residents have been asked to evacuate due to the threat of dangerous flooding.

Meanwhile, in Azad Kashmir, heavy rains in Bagh flooded the Mahal Nallah, forcing authorities to evacuate settlements along the water channel.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), more rain is expected in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir today. The forecast also suggests rain in parts of Sindh, Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan during the evening or night, which could lead to more flooding.
