Heavy rains and floods in the country cause human and material losses

Islamabad: According to the latest data from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), 932 people have died and 1,057 have been injured due to rains and floods across the country so far.

According to provincial details, the highest number of deaths occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where 504 people died and 218 were injured. Punjab reported 246 deaths and 658 injuries, while 68 people died in Sindh and 26 people died in Balochistan. 41 people died in Gilgit-Baltistan and 38 people in Azad Kashmir. Nine people also lost their lives in Islamabad. The number of injured is 449, 288 and 320 men, women and children respectively.

According to government data, 8,217 houses were damaged and 6,508 livestock were killed in the country due to heavy rains and floods. In addition, 671 km of roads and 239 bridges have also been affected.

During the rescue operations, the NDMA has shifted 2.544 million people to safer places. Moreover, 262,929 people have been provided medical assistance in 1,626 relief camps so far.

The NDMA has appealed to the public to take precautionary measures and follow government instructions to avoid further human loss.
