Lahore: An important meeting was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to review the flood situation and relief activities. The Chief Minister appreciated the performance of the administration and rescue agencies and said that thousands of lives were saved due to their timely actions.
It was informed in the meeting that due to continuous rains and the release of water by India, the flood situation in many districts of Punjab had become serious. However, due to timely measures, 600,000 people and 450,000 cattle were shifted to safe places. During this, the Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners also performed brilliantly.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed that advance evacuation should be ensured in flood-prone districts such as Multan, Okara, Toba Tek Singh, Sahiwal, and Rahim Yar Khan. She said that to make the relief operation more effective, the affected areas should be identified with the help of drones so that relief operations can be started immediately.
She further said that in the first phase of the flood, people have been saved; now the second phase is beginning, in which water drainage and restoration of the communication system will be given top priority. The Chief Minister stressed that no affected person should feel alone; the government will provide help to every needy person. She directed the administration to immediately provide clean water, food, and medicines to the affected people and said that if necessary, the affected families should also be given temporary shelter in school buildings.
