Islamabad: Abdul Aleem Khan, Federal Minister for Privatization endorsed views in this regard stating that there is need for privatization of state owned enterprises and organizations but all should be done in a legal manner that no action as per lined privatization laws and regulations.
Speaking on the occasion of the 229th meeting of the Privatization Commission Board, Aleem Khan focused on privatization in several organizations, as well as the highlights of recommendations. The board ratified the minutes of the prior session and discussed the privatization process, commending progress made.
Speaking at the occasion, the federal minister urged for more openness in relation to privatization schemes and also for the acceleration of the process of privatization projects in general. He directed the pertinent government departments to accelerate developmental process but within legal requirements.
Much of the meeting revolved around the identification of financial advisors for privatization along with an update on some key technical issues. On the matter of privatization, Aleem Khan said, “Privatization must remain bound by the rules and regulations only; there will be no unbend.”
He further stated that the rationale for privation or complete decomposition of these institutions is mainly to shift the burden of spending from the national treasury t.
The meeting also discussed new policies and crucial measures for the privatisation of Pakistan International airlines (PIA) in a more effective way. Aleem Khan pointed out that the national airline has now become more attractive and feasible to be privatized.
He also announced that he wanted the Ministry of Energy to complete the preparations for the privatization of DISCOs within the next week.
This particular stream stressed the government’s affirmative role in the restructuring of the state’s enterprises using public-share offerings that will enhance the wellbeing of the economy.
