Islamabad: A red alert has been issued in the federal capital, further tightening security. A heavy contingent of police has been deployed at important squares, entrances and sensitive places of the city.
According to sources, all Superintendents of Police (SPs), Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and Station House Officers (SHOs) have been directed to remain in the field and monitor security arrangements.
The authorities have also ordered action and arrests against those violating Section 144. According to sources, immediate action has been directed in case of crowd gathering or banners being put up at any place.
Additional personnel have been deployed at the entrances of the city, while the entry of unrelated persons has been stopped in the red zone. Rangers personnel have also been deployed to protect sensitive government buildings.
These security measures in Islamabad have come at a time when the political situation is tense due to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf protests and a march towards Islamabad. Islamabad Police has also confirmed that security has been increased at the entrances and exits of the city and flag marches have been held in recent days.
