Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a subsidy of billions of rupees on new crops to revive the agricultural sector and provide relief to farmers. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting held in Lahore, which reviewed in detail the implementation of the solarization scheme and wet support program of agricultural tubewells.

Further expanding the scope of the Kisan Card, it was decided in the meeting that more than 6 lakh farmers will be provided VAT support of Rs 5,000 per acre. This facility will be given not only to the Kisan Card holders but also to the farmers who do not have this card.

Officials present at the meeting told the briefing that 60 percent of the loans provided to the farmers for agricultural interventions through the Kisan Card have been returned, while a total of 22 billion rupees have been returned by the farmers themselves. Along with this, the second installment of the loan for the new crop has also been released, and the verification of 50 percent of the applications received under the wet support program has been completed.

Maryam Nawaz said that the government of Punjab is committed to strengthening the agricultural economy, and farmers are being empowered by providing them modern facilities, financial assistance, and subsidies. She said that the subsidy given for the new crop will increase the production and improve the income of the farmers.

She added that economic stability is not possible without agricultural development, and that is why the Punjab government is taking practical steps to provide every possible facility to the farmers.
