Lahore: The Punjab government has announced the restoration of the Basant Festival in Lahore on a limited scale. According to Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari, Basant will be allowed to be celebrated for only three days, and special security and traffic arrangements will be ensured during this time.

Uzma Bukhari said that specific places will be designated for the sale of kites and strings to prevent illegal activities. According to her, consultations are underway with traffic authorities, and citizens will be requested to avoid unnecessary use of motorcycles during these days.

She said that banning the entry of motorcycles in some sensitive areas is also being considered. The Information Minister clarified that there will be no exemption for those who violate the law, and strict punishments will be given.

Uzma Bukhari said that the government wants Basant to be celebrated as a regular festival across Punjab next year. She also said that a decision regarding a possible holiday on the occasion of Basant will be taken soon.
