Actions against those spreading rumors on social media, 39 people arrested

Karachi: Police have taken major action against the spread of misleading information on social media. According to officials, a total of 39 people were arrested during operations in Lahore, Kasur, Gujranwala, Kamuki and Sheikhupura.

According to the police, the arrested people are accused of spreading inflammatory or false news on platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp, which was causing public unrest.

According to sources, 39 people were arrested from Lahore alone, while dozens of suspicious accounts have been identified in other cities as well. The police have traced and identified 87 more accounts, while a list of more than 200 people has also been prepared.

On Monday night, state agencies also took action in Muridke on allegations of spreading rumors. Officials say that the monitoring process on social media has been tightened further to prevent false information and fear-mongering activities in a timely manner.

According to a police spokesperson, anyone who tries to spread chaos or fear through social media will face strict action as per the law.
