ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in an important message on the occasion of World Access to Information Day, has termed this right as an effective means of democratic transparency and public autonomy. The Prime Minister stressed that every citizen has the fundamental right to seek, receive and disseminate information, which the government fully recognizes.

He was of the view that the free flow of information strengthens good governance, promotes social inclusion, and most importantly, establishes an atmosphere of trust between the state and the people. PM Shehbaz Sharif added that only informed societies can move towards the goal of peace, justice and sustainable development. The government has made legislative and practical reforms to guarantee the right to information, and has vowed to provide equal access to information in the digital era, especially to women and youth.

The Prime Minister assured that the Pakistan Information Commission is proactive in redressing grievances and providing information, while the process of digitization is progressing rapidly to make public records secure and accessible. He called on all stakeholders to work together to create a transparent and knowledge-based society that strengthens democracy and accelerates the journey of progress and prosperity.
