Islamabad: Minister of State for Information Technology Shaza Fatima has said that the government is taking steps to further strengthen Pakistan’s financial system with the help of modern technology and build the economy on a digital basis.
According to Shaza Fatima, the government’s priority is to connect as many citizens as possible to the modern digital financial system. For this purpose, digital payments, wallets and other technology-based financial facilities are being promoted.
The Minister of State said that the digital transition of the financial system can make it easier for the public to access financial services. This process can also help increase transparency in transactions and reduce dependence on cash.
The government is already using digital payments and wallets in various government programs. According to the IT Ministry, steps have also been taken to connect low-income individuals and women with the digital financial system.
Shaza Fatima said that digitalisation is not limited to the financial sector alone but is also transforming various parts of the economy and government services. According to the government, a better digital system can facilitate business, employment, investment and public services.
The Minister of State also described the Special Investment Facilitation Council as an important platform for national development and investment. He said that various relevant agencies are working together through the council to promote national development and investment.
The government’s digital policy is giving importance to better internet connectivity, telecom reforms, digital payments and a conducive environment for investment. According to the IT Ministry, Pakistan is rapidly moving towards a digital economy and the government is continuing reforms to further accelerate this process.
According to experts, introducing technology alone will not be enough for the success of the digital financial system. Public trust, cybersecurity, strong digital infrastructure and awareness among citizens about the use of digital financial services will also be necessary. Only then can the benefits of digitalization reach the public and the business sector on a large scale.
