Islamabad: The installation of modern artificial intelligence (AI) cameras under Islamabad’s Safe City project is achieving significant success in preventing crime in the city. According to DG Safe City Islamabad, Shakir Hussain Dawar, 77 criminal gangs have been identified so far with the help of AI surveillance, out of which 32 have been arrested.

Currently, there are 2,758 cameras installed in the city, out of which 700 cameras are equipped with AI technology. Under the new project, 3,200 modern cameras will be installed, which will be equipped with modern features such as facial recognition, vehicle number plate recognition, and monitoring of traffic violations.

The cost of the project has been set at Rs 17.4 billion, and its PC-1 has been submitted. Additionally, the installation of seven high-powered servers will enhance the performance of new and old cameras, while plans are under consideration to install 14 more servers.
