Rawalpindi – A new blow to inflation for the citizens of Rawalpindi, the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has given in-principle approval for a major increase in the fares of private public transport and goods transport. This decision was taken in an important meeting chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Maleeha Eser and RTA Secretary Syed Asad Abbas Shirazi.
Officials say that after the increase in the price of diesel by 54.93% and petrol by 42.73%, it was no longer possible to operate transport at the old fares. According to the new schedule, the rate of increase in various categories is as follows:
- Inter-city AC transport: 37 percent increase
- Goods: 35 percent increase
- Inter-city non-AC: 32 percent increase
- Local AC transport: 30 percent increase
- Local non-AC: 25 percent increase
The administration says that this decision has been taken to maintain a balance between the convenience of passengers and the operational costs of transporters.
