Lahore, Pakistan— Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched a new Autism School Program to offer special education and support for children with autism. A spokesman for the Punjab government said that Pakistan’s first public autism school, being built in Lahore, is almost finished.

The spokesman announced that the new advanced center will provide free care and schooling for children with autism, easing the financial pressure on parents. “This program shows that the government is dedicated to providing special children with the care and support they need to succeed,” said the spokeswoman.

The Punjab government has set up 10 autism units in different special education schools in the state, along with the autistic school. These groups aim to give focused help and tools to children with autism, assisting them in becoming active members of society.

The government has provided 7,702 hearing aids, 360 wheelchairs, and 500 white canes to special students, helping to improve their quality of life. Eight new special education school buildings have been finished, and plans for nine more have been approved.

CM Maryam Nawaz highlighted the government’s commitment to enhancing the special education system and recovery centers. “We want to help special children become valued and active members of society.” She said that opening Pakistan’s first public autism school is a step towards reaching this goal.

Maryam Nawaz emphasized the need to lessen the financial burden on parents of children with special needs. “We offer free treatment and education to help families and make sure every child can reach their full potential,” she said.

The Autism School Program is part of the Punjab government’s plan to help include and support people with disabilities. Many people have hailed the effort as a big improvement for special children and their families.
