209 people died in Buner, deaths in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reached 314

Islamabad: The latest report of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has exposed the horrific situation of rains and natural disasters across the country. So far, 645 people have died in the current monsoon season while hundreds of injured are undergoing treatment in hospitals.

According to the data, 151 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours alone, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa being the worst affected. 144 people lost their lives in the province, including 124 men, 16 women and 11 children.

137 people were also injured due to floods and landslides. The report says that a total of 645 people have died and hundreds of houses have been destroyed between June 26 and August 16.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the death toll in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone has reached 314 while 156 people have been injured.  159 houses were affected in the province, of which 62 were completely destroyed.

The worst-hit district is Buner, where 209 deaths were reported, while Swat, Shangla, Torghar, Bajaur, Battagram and Mansehra are also among the severely affected areas.

Officials say that relief operations have been intensified, but the situation could become more serious given the threat of more rains. The public has been advised to take precautionary measures and stay away from low-lying areas.
