Islamabad: Speaking to the media at the Parliament House, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif responded to the opposition’s demand for his resignation, saying that he was ready to resign if his resignation could solve the security challenges. He said that national security and protection of people’s lives and property are the top priorities of the government, and if any improvement comes from his resignation, he will not avoid it.
This statement was made at the time The opposition had strongly criticized the government, calling the terrorist attack on the Jaffar Express a major security lapse. The opposition leaders, in a joint press conference, had demanded the resignation of the interior minister, defence minister and information minister, claiming that the law and order situation in the country had gone out of control.
On the other hand, government sources say that the security agencies are conducting operations against the terrorists with full force and investigations are underway to expose the elements behind the recent incidents. The issue is being hotly debated in political circles, and more political developments are expected in the coming days.
