The ongoing tension between Iran and the United States appears to be entering a new phase, with Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, responding to US President Donald Trump’s recent statements, warning that the consequences of any aggressive action against Iran could be far-reaching.

Qalibaf said in a statement on social media platform X that wrong strategies and emotional decisions could not only further complicate the security situation in the region but also severely damage global energy markets. His statement came at a time when US President Donald Trump has reportedly taken a tough stance on Iran’s key oil export hub, Kharg Island.

The Iranian speaker said in his message that if there is an attempt to pressure Iran or target its strategic installations, its effects could be felt for years. According to him, such measures could create an “endless quagmire” in which the US itself could get entangled.

Kharg Island is of exceptional importance to Iran’s economy. A large part of the country’s crude oil exports reach global markets through this island. This is why Iran considers any potential threat as a direct challenge to its national security and economic stability.

International energy experts say that if tensions in the Persian Gulf increase, the global oil supply chain could be affected. This is likely to result in a significant increase in crude oil prices, increased shipping costs and additional pressure on the global economy.

According to political analysts, Qalibaf’s statement is an important message not only for the domestic public but also for the international community. Iran is trying to convince that the response will not be limited in case of targeting its important facilities, but it can have wider regional effects.

On the other hand, there are different opinions in American policy-making circles regarding Iran’s regional role and its military capabilities. However, diplomatic observers agree that diplomatic contacts are indispensable to reduce tensions in the current situation.

Experts say that the Middle East has already become the center of several geopolitical conflicts. In such a situation, a direct confrontation or harsh measures between Iran and the United States could lead to economic and political instability not only in the region but also globally.

In this context, the international community is appealing to both countries to exercise restraint, dialogue, and diplomatic means to avoid a major crisis and maintain stability in the region.
