ISLAMABAD: Iranian Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, while addressing the meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Parliamentary Union held in Azerbaijan, has termed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding as a symbol of Iran’s resistance, perseverance and national strength.

In his address, he said that the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding is not the result of any kind of pressure, coercion or external compulsion, but it reflects the steadfastness of the Iranian nation and its steadfastness in its stance. According to him, recent diplomatic developments have highlighted the importance of the balance of power and the negotiation process in the region.

Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said that Iran has always prioritized its national interests, sovereignty and regional stability. He said that the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding is a manifestation of the fact that solutions to problems can be found through negotiations and mutual respect.

The Iranian speaker claimed that the agreement is the result of Iran’s diplomatic success and its resistance, while it is also being seen as a challenge to US policies in some circles. He said that Iran maintained its principled stance despite all the pressure.

During his speech, he urged the countries of the region to accept their own responsibility for their security and stability and reject external interference in regional affairs. According to him, lasting peace is possible only when the countries of the region move forward on the basis of joint cooperation and mutual trust.

Qalibaf said that Iran is eager to further strengthen relations with its neighboring and regional countries. He clarified that Tehran is ready to increase cooperation based on the principles of mutual respect, sovereignty and common interests.

According to political observers, the statement of the Iranian speaker at the OIC Parliamentary Union meeting has come at a time when diplomatic activities and the negotiation process in the region are gaining new importance. The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding is also being described by many circles as an important effort to reduce tensions in the Middle East.

Experts say that Iran’s emphasis on regional cooperation and respect for sovereignty has been among the key points of its foreign policy. The recent statement also reflects the same policy continuity in which local and regional roles are prioritized for solving the region’s problems.
