Islamabad: The Pakistan Super League has expanded its reach with the inclusion of two new franchises for the first time in its history. The strong interest from investors during the auction held in Islamabad made it clear that PSL has now become not just a cricket league but a strong sports brand.

The Hyderabad team was bought by Fawad Sarwar’s group for Rs 175 crore, while the Sialkot franchise went to Hamza Majeed’s company for Rs 185 crore. In total, both the teams were sold for Rs 360 crore, which is a significant financial record in the history of PSL.

The ceremony also honoured the Pakistan Shaheens team, which won the Hong Kong Super Sixes and the AFC Asia Cup, which further enhanced the significance of the event.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said that PSL has now become the identity of Pakistan, and its expansion will strengthen the reputation of Pakistan cricket at the global level. He said that the inclusion of Sialkot and Hyderabad will benefit the league both geographically and commercially.

Hyderabad team owner Fawad Sarwar said that he himself grew up in Hyderabad, and for him this moment is both emotional and historic. According to him, bringing the city on the global cricket map was his dream, which has now come true.

Sialkot franchise owner Hamza Majeed said that Sialkot’s name is recognised worldwide for sports goods, and now the cricket team will further strengthen this identity.

According to senior sports analyst Imran Ali, “The expansion of the PSL is actually a step towards the economic independence of Pakistan cricket. New teams will create a platform for young players and confidence for investment.”

According to digital sports expert Nida Khan, the PSL is now becoming the fastest-growing league in the Asian market after the IPL, and the new franchises will further accelerate this growth.

The participation of eight teams in PSL Season 11 will not only make the competition tougher but also bring a new cricketing experience to the fans. According to experts, this decision will further strengthen the global status of the league in the coming years.
