Islamabad: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved the request for a reduction in electricity prices, giving great relief to consumers.
According to the decision issued, the basic electricity tariff has been reduced by Rs 1.15 per unit across the country from July 1, which will be applicable to all distribution companies, including K-Electric.
According to the decision, the current rates will remain the same for lifeline consumers; the tariff for consumption up to 50 units per month will be Rs 3.95 per unit, while for consumption up to 100 units, it will remain Rs 7.74 per unit.
The new tariff for protected consumers using 100 units has been set at Rs 10.54 per unit, while for consumption of 200 units, it will be Rs 13.1 per unit.
The price of electricity per unit has also been reduced for unprotected consumers and commercial consumers.
The new average basic tariff for commercial consumers has been set at Rs 45.43, for general services at Rs 43.17, for industries at Rs 33.48, for bulk consumers at Rs 41.76, and for agricultural consumers at Rs 30.75 per unit.

According to experts, this decision will reduce inflationary pressure to some extent, while the industrial sector will also get relief.
