CM Maryam Nawaz Launches Climate Internship: Rs 60,000 Monthly Stipend for Punjab Students

LAHORE – In a major move to empower the youth while tackling environmental challenges, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially launched the Climate Leadership Development Internship Program.

Under this initiative, selected university students across Punjab will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 60,000 while gaining hands-on experience in climate advocacy and governance.

Program Highlights

The internship is designed to transform students into environmental leaders by involving them in real-world projects aimed at solving Punjab’s climate crisis.

“This project reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to empowering our youth and fostering environmental consciousness,” said CM Maryam Nawaz during the inauguration.

How to Apply: Eligibility and Process

The program is open to students currently enrolled in or recently graduated from universities across Punjab.

  1. Visit the official Environmental Protection Department (EPD) portal.
  2. Fill out the online application form with your academic credentials.
  3. Submit your application before the midnight deadline on March 29.

Why This Matters

Pakistan remains one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change. By combining financial incentives with professional training, the Punjab government aims to create a “Green Force” of young professionals capable of leading sustainable development and managing climate-related disasters.

Officials have urged eligible students to apply immediately, as the first batch will be selected shortly after the deadline to begin work on urgent seasonal climate projects.

  • CNIC / B-Form: A clear scanned copy of your original National Identity Card (front and back).
  • Recent Passport Size Photograph: Usually required with a blue or white background (ensure it’s in .jpg or .png format).
  • Domicile Certificate: Proof that you are a resident of Punjab.
  • Academic Degree/Transcripts: Final Degree or latest Transcript (for recent graduates).
    • Result cards for Matric and Intermediate/A-Levels.
  • CV / Resume: An updated one-page CV highlighting any previous volunteer work or interest in environmental issues.
  • Valid Email & Mobile Number: You will need these to receive the OTP (One-Time Password) for registration.

Quick Eligibility Check

To save you time, ensure you meet these basic criteria before applying:

  • Age: Generally between 18 and 25 years.
  • Residency: Must have a Punjab Domicile.
  • Education: Open to current students or those who have graduated within the last 2 years.
  • Preference: While open to all, students of Environmental Sciences, Engineering, and Social Sciences are often given priority.
